Many have accused Putin of reigniting the cold war, we believe this is a deliberate strategy to buy time for Russia and his plans for conquest. Whether you believe Obama is a weak leader or not, we have pegged him a tyrant at home and a traitor abroad, we have a power vacuum in the world today, as America has retreated as the leader of the free world under Obama’s feckless foreign policy misadventures.

This absence of American power will be filled regardless, to that end Putin is making noise about expanding his nuclear forces, and to use them as offensive weapons:

Russia will upgrade its nuclear and space defense forces in response to perceived threats from NATO and the United States, including the U.S. “prompt global strike” program, according to Defense News.

The “prompt global strike” program is a developing program designed to take out any target on earth within an hour’s notice.

“Our response to the prompt global strike strategy is upgrading our strategic nuclear forces and resources—the strategic rocket forces and the naval ones—and also developing air and space defense resources according to the plans we have finalized,” Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, who oversees defense, was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency.

Putin is overplaying his hand, though he does not fear Obama so he is free to act at will and will not carry any significant repercussions. This echoes the provocations of Hitler in 1938 with his demand of reunification of the Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia:

He spoke after President Vladimir Putin held a government meeting on Russia’s defense spending at which he accused Western countries of provoking the Ukraine crisis in order to “revive NATO.”

Using Cold War rhetoric, Putin complained of “new threats appearing” including the buildup of NATO forces in eastern Europe, the development of the US missile shield in Europe and Alaska and the development of the ‘Prompt Global Strike’ program.

Putin's claim about the abuse of the Russian speaking people in Ukraine mimic Hitler's about the German speakers, this is right out of his 1938 playbook. The claim about reviving NATO is just posturing for his plans to coalesce as he gains the needed time to finish whatever plans he has made.

He is virtually assured of success with Obama at the helm, with his less that stellar actions against ISIS will assure Putin that the Mideast oil reserves will be his for the taking in short order. Just the threat of offensive nuclear weapon use will paralyze most of the European powers as well as Obama and allow him free rein to continue his aggression wherever he intends to project his will.

We are beginning to see what Obama actually meant when he told Medvedev that "he would be more flexible after the election." From Free Beacon.
