Congressman Proposes Choking Off Funding For DOJ Program Targeting Gun Dealers

June 2, 2014

A Missouri congressman hopes to give the Department of Justice a taste of its own medicine with an amendment to halt an initiative that he says uses “intimidation tactics” and forces banks to sever relationships with legitimate businesses. Blaine Luetkemeyer wants to choke off funding for “Operation Choke Point.”

Operation Choke Points Victim Fights Back

Mark Cohen of Powderhorn Outfitters is one of the more recent victims of the illegal Operation Choke Point ran by Eric Holder the DOJ and other federal agencies against businesses that Obama and Holder do not like. Mainly firearms and ammunition as well as other State chartered businesses that are beyond the legal purview of these federal agencies, so they have been using intimidation and extortion practices to choke-off their supply of money at the source their banking partners.

Here it was TD bank and we have to wonder why Obama and company are using over-zealous illegal acts against commerce. Last we checked we still had a Constitution in this nation that allowed the Sovereign States to approve of commerce within their States boundaries as a peaceful member of our autonomous Union. We agree with Mr. Cohen who has called the acts of the Obama regime "arbitrary and capricious," we concur.

We said so, in a previous article on Operation Choke Point last month:

Then turns around and unleashes the abuse of these types of actions for what is clearly a capricious whim not founded in law.

We applaud Mr. Cohen and will extend him as much publicity as he needs as this story unfolds, as we recognize the acts of patriots when we find them as we are being inundated by the tyrants in Washington and we need to defeat them if we are to remain a free and able people.

We must with all due haste impeach Obama, Eric Holder and prosecute them for these acts of economic tyranny against lawful businesses chartered on the State level. And rail against these acts of sabotage against the people and nation by such arbitrary and capricious acts, which is an all to familiar theme from this tyrant. From Daily Caller.

Cohen explained what happened in an interview with The Daily Caller on Friday. “This year I went to apply for a line of credit, and the bank manager came by the store,” said Cohen, adding that he’s known the bank manager for over 20 years.

“Mark, I apologize,” she said, according to Cohen, “your credit history is great, but the bank is turning you down because you sell guns.” Cohen told his friend and lender that he would have no choice but to close his accounts with the bank since they couldn’t provide the services his company needs.

He then sent an email blast to his 5,000-plus email list and wrote a blog post for the website Northeast Shooters. The Washington Times first reported the story.

Cohen believes that TD Bank didn’t want to do business with his gun store because of a government initiative called Operation Choke Point.

Operated under a cloud of secrecy by the Department of Justice and in coordination with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Operation Choke Point forces banks to keep a closer eye on companies in industries that are deemed “high risk”, including gun and ammunition dealers, coin dealers, payday lenders, and debt consolidation service providers.

The goal of the initiative is to protect consumers against fraud, but it has had negative consequences. But lawmakers have paid increased attention to the initiative because they believe it ends up ensnaring legitimate businesses by “choking off” their access to banking services – the lifeblood of any business.
